Seva is a Sanskrit word that describes the act of selfless service. Seva Street was established because of the growing need to provide help and support to rough-sleepers in Stratford and the surrounding area. The essence of Seva Street as a charity comes from the selfless act of serving with love.
We’re not affiliated to any race or faith, and get volunteers and guests from all backgrounds – from India, Africa, Argentina to England – helping us. There’s no agenda, apart from helping.
The charity started as a couple of volunteers and around 40 homeless – now, there are 35 regular volunteers, who help nearly 200 homeless. This involves handing out toiletries, clothes, blankets, sleeping bags and hot food. We believe there is more that needs to be done.
Our ethos is to treat everyone as equals – no one gets asked why they’re in the queue for food. Those we help are our guests, and we invite them to Come Eat with Us. Our moto is that we are ‘serving with love’. Each and every volunteer working with Seva Street has a gentle, generous and loving spirit that is contagious. We invite you to join us – please get in touch if you think you could help.
